So you have a baby on the way or recently gave birth, and your newborn session is now booked.. and you have a million questions.. don’t worry, it’s totally normal. I am going to try and make an easy list of the most commonly asked things – and if you have more questions, just email alliedbennett@yahoo.com

What do I need to bring?
You are welcome to bring anything you think you will want baby photographed with. Also bring your diapering supplies and whatever the baby needs to eat.

What will my baby wear in the photographs?
If you have seen my newborn work – you know that my newborn style is nakie/diaper babies, generally. Reason being, that with little teeny babes – less is often more. Outfits swallow them up and make it hard to see just how small they really are. Fitted onesies are adorable if you want an outfit. Of course, I will photograph in whatever is important to you, but this is just my suggestion.

How long will the session last?
This is highly dependent upon your own individual child and their sleepiness, temperament, hunger and tolerance for me. =) If your baby is particularly sleepy and full, we can shoot several set-ups back to back and be done in 45-60 minutes. If your child needs more cuddles, milk, binky, mama/dada time.. then that gets longer. I reserve 3 hours for a newborn session, just in case I need it. I shoot until I have what I need, or it is clear that the boss (the baby) is finished with photos!

What if my baby gets hungry?
If your baby is hungry, at all.. it should eat. This is my policy in life and in photoshoots. I encourage you to either feed the baby right before you come, or as soon as you get here. You are welcome to come a little early, and feed them here if you like. I am a mom, I understand 100% how having a newborn is. I strive to make it comfortable and easy for you. My studio is nursing friendly, and we have a rocking recliner for your convenience, or you are welcome to feed the baby right here in the studio. A full baby is a happy baby, a happy baby is better in photographs!

What about props? I love that image of (fill in the blank)…
If you have a particular image in mind, please let me know before the session, or at the session if you see something here you like! I am open to your desires for the shoot. We have shot on location and in home, if that is something you prefer, just ask! If you have a prop or location you want that is your own, just say the word. If you have color preferences, speak up. If you have anything in mind, tell me!

Can I bring my mom? my gramma? my sister? my friend?
Short answer, yes. Long answer, my newborn studio is 10×20 and houses my desk, my props and my shooting space. Space is limited and if many guests come with you, they will probably need to wait in the living room (our studio is attached to our home) I love your family, but I don’t want anyone to get upset that they cannot fit into my small studio! so, maybe just mom and dad, or mom and a helper? Up to you, but that is my suggestion.

Can mom and dad get in the pics?
I will force you to get in at least ONE pic each, and likely a quick black and white family shot. Trust me on this one. You might not feel beautiful, glamourous or photo-ready.. but you are a brand-spanking new family and that is too important to miss.
If I missed anything – feel free to leave a comment or email me at alliedbennett@yahoo.com!
