About a year ago.. Ana started sleeping through the night! She was one of those babies who was amazing all day, such a personality, a sweet dear baby to everyone in the daylight.. but refused to sleep all night, eating at all hours and wanting her mom.. It was HARD, it went on for almost 14 months as I painfully sat and watched all of my friends babies that were much younger start sleeping all night, giving their moms the light back in their eyes. It was a hard fought battle and eventually, we gave up the idea that we were in charge of Ana’s “sleep training” as we botched at every attempt of every method ever mentioned on the internet. When I gave in and started to accept the fact that I really may never sleep again, things were much easier to handle but I was TIRRRRED. Finally, about May of last year, Ana gave me a break and magically started sleeping through the night. I have been afraid to say it out loud for fear she will hear me and revert to torturing me with nightly demands of bottles and extensive cuddling. But here I am.. telling you that we have a sleeper now! What on earth does this rambled paragraph have to do with the title of this post? well…
Last May, I also heard about Neighborhood Workouts.. and being that I was officially starting to hoard sleep for the next instance where I might not get it for over a year I had the energy to give it a try. I had worked out a little since having Ana, but not enough, and I needed mommy time.. but without a babysitter and being a work at home mom 24/7 at that point.. it seemed like a perfect fit! So I trucked my happy stroller down to the City Park and started doing these workouts.. and loved it! Everyone there is a mom and knows what it is like to sacrifice your body and your life for your child and there is no judgement for fitness level (or in my case, the lack there of.) hah!
Kristin Runion Meeks is the founder and leader of the Stroller Workout I attend on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 10am (there is also now a beginner 9am class that just started!) The idea was given to her by a mom who had lived in a bigger city and wanted to have a stroller class here but noone was offering it.. so Kristin took her already awesome neighborhood workouts straight to moms who were craving something of this nature.
On any given Monday or Wednesday, you can catch the stroller mob working it out, mom style, around the park. In the winter months, Kristen takes it indoors to the pavilion and in the warmer months we meet at the Caboose and leave from there. This morning there were like 10 of us, moms of all ages and levels of fitness, with babies from birth to 4! (older are welcome, this is what was there today!)
To help Kristin celebrate 1 year of these classes, I donated a baby session to be drawn at one of the classes! She also has donations and gifts from lots of other local businesses, so come, try it out and win something fun! The first class is always free so there is no reason not to give it a shot if you are a mom that is home during the mornings. (there are also boot camps and running clinics that you can get involved with, go to the Neighborhood Workouts FB page to keep up!)
